Earthquake
Emergency Task Listwww.QSQuakeSafe.com Print this list and place 2 copies in a prominent place of your home or office on each floor near an outside doorway. Review it periodically. When an earthquake strikes, depending on the building you are in; DUCK, COVER & HOLD After the tremors stop, grab this list, locate everyone and make plans to evacuate the building. Quickly check everyone for injuries. If injuries are serious take precautions before moving patient. Call pets to your location - do not search for them. On the way out the door grab good shoes, a warm coat and your Survival Kit. Put these clothes on later. Also grab fire extinguishers that should be placed near outside doors. Once outside find a safe zone away from toppling buildings, poles, electrical wires etc. Once in a safe zone lay on the ground - do not try to stand. Aftershocks are very likely. DO NOT lie in the roadway unless absolutely necessary - and if so stay alert for vehicles. Hold children close to you and confine your pets. If appropriate, one person could return to the building to turn off gas. Never use matches or a flame as a light source. Use a flashlight only and wear a dust mask. If you smell gas evacuate immediately and do not attempt to turn gas off from inside the building. Check again for injuries, especially to children and to those who seem to be confused. Look for fires and respond appropriately. Turn on your battery powered radio and listen for instructions. Evacuate the area if advised to do so. If advised to evacuate do not go back into the building except to turn off gas and water if appropriate. Lock doors before you leave. Leave a note on all doors telling rescuers when you left, with whom and where you are going. Let them know if there are still pets or deceased people (where) in the building, and where to turn off the gas if you haven't already done so. Call your out-of-region contact person to apprise them of your situation and location.
